Natural durability of five tropical wood species in field decay tests

نویسندگان

چکیده

Measuring the natural resistance of wood is fundamental for proper use. The durability five tropical species was investigated by field decay testing during exposure 360 days. Wood logs (length 0,5 m; diameter 8 cm - 12 cm) were used in this study. mass loss and index calculated visual analysis time performed all samples. samples presented evidence two different groups concerning durability. first group (Mimosa caesalpiniifolia, Mimosa ophthalmocentra, tenuiflora) showed highest to biodeterioration, better or similar performance compared treated Eucalypts (as control). other (Aspidosperma pyrifolium Cordia oncocalyx) had lower outdoor service, being more susceptible decay. In general, indicated uses that require medium prolonged exposure, such as timber stakes fence posts.

Short communication. Natural durability of reed (Phragmites australis) against wood decay organisms: relation to other forest species

This work presents the research carried out to determine the natural durability of reed (Phragmites communis) from the Fertö region of Hungary against wood decay organisms, with the objective of obtaininig information to be used as a constituent element in outdoor use, and in particular, in a viable and sustainable motorway noise barrier. Phragmites communis is a large perennial grass of consid...

Factors controlling bark decomposition and its role in wood decomposition in five tropical tree species

Organic matter decomposition represents a vital ecosystem process by which nutrients are made available for plant uptake and is a major flux in the global carbon cycle. Previous studies have investigated decomposition of different plant parts, but few considered bark decomposition or its role in decomposition of wood. However, bark can comprise a large fraction of tree biomass. We used a common...

Five New Wood Decay Fungi (Polyporales and Hymenochaetales) in Korea

The wood decay fungi are a diverse taxonomic group that plays a pivotal role in forest carbon cycling. Wood decay fungi use various enzymatic pathways to digest dead or living wood in order to obtain carbon and other nutrients and these enzymatic systems have been exploited for both industrial and medical applications. Over 600 wood decay fungi species have been described in Korea; however, the...

Characterization of Wood Cellular Structures of Five Lesser Used Wood Species Growing in Nigeria

The wood micro cellular structural constituents of five lesser used wood species in Nigeria among which are Butyrospermum paradoxum, Albizia zygia, Lanea acida, Parkia felicoida and Isoberlina doka are determined. Fibre cells accounts for 54% of the total wood micro cellular constituents of B. paradoxum while vessel, axial and ray parenchyma cells make up the rest of the wood micro structural c...
